Limit buy orders in the app

Currently, Bitvavo only supports a Good-Til-Canceled limit order in the app with the following properties:

  • Your order will be executed at the pre-specified minimum price or a better price for you.
    • For a buy order, that is below your specified price
    • For a sell order, that is above your specified price
  • Your order will remain in the order book until it is executed or canceled by you.

It is not yet possible to:

  • create a post-only order.
  • use high-risk products, like leverage and "short" and "long" positions.
  • submit multiple orders at once, called "One Cancels the Other" (OCO).

To set up a limit buy order in the app:

Step 1: Select the cryptocurrency you want to buy.

Step 4: In the limit order screen, there are three fields that you can fill in. Of these, the limit price is mandatory, and you must choose either a quantity or total amount.

Field 1: Limit price
This is the fixed reference price you want to pay for the coin. Press the Current button to set the limit price to the current market price or set your preferred price.

Field 2: Quantity
Select the amount of the crypto you want to buy and the total price is automatically calculated.

or

Field 3: Total (excluding fees)

Select the amount you want to buy of and the amount of crypto will be calculated automatically.

When everything is filled in, tap the Preview button to see an overview before placing the order.

Note: The total shown on the order preview excludes fees so you will need to take into account your available funds when setting the order total. For example, if your order total excluding fees is €100 and your euro balance is €100, then you will see an error if you continue because the order total plus fees will be more than your available funds. Adjust your order totals or check if you can free up funds by closing open orders.

Step 5: Once you've finished previewing your order, tap to confirm it.

Step 6: Select Got it to continue, or choose to Place another order to go back to the order screen

Your order has now been placed in the order book. You can find it under the relevant digital currency in the Open orders option.

Tap on the order within the Open orders to see its details or to cancel it. It is not currently possible to update an open order from within the app.
