Why can't I deposit GBP into my Bitvavo account?

There can be several reasons why you are not able to deposit GBP into your Bitvavo account. In some cases, you might be able to solve the issue yourself. In other cases, you may need to contact Bitvavo support for help.

Error message

When deposits are disabled, you might see an error message like this:

This can have several different causes.

Second account

Why can't you make a GBP deposit?
You created a second account with Bitvavo. Unfortunately, you are not allowed to have more than one Bitvavo account. This is due to the strict AML regulations we must adhere to and is stated in our User Agreement, in Article 2.7. For this reason, your account has been automatically blocked and cannot be used. You can remove your new account and use your original account instead.

What steps do you need to take if you have no access to the original account?
If you no longer have access to your Bitvavo account and the email address that is connected to the account, you can recover your account by following the re-verification procedure. You can find all the steps in this Support article.

If this process does not work for you, please contact us via support@bitvavo.com and provide us with the following information:

- Your current/old email address

- Your desired email address

- A photo of yourself holding your identity document and showing it clearly to the camera, including a piece of paper with today's date on it

As soon as the requested information has been received and approved by us, we will change your email address for you and you will be able to access the account again.

Your residential address is not verified

To deposit GBP into your Bitvavo account, your residential address must first be verified. If your address is missing or not yet validated, you will not be able to deposit into your Bitvavo account.

To fix this, follow the instructions in this article:
How do I add my residential address to my Bitvavo account?

If you encounter any issues while adding your address, feel free to contact our Support team at support@bitvavo.com.

Deposit gets refunded

There can also be several reasons why your deposit automatically gets refunded.

  • The bank account you are trying to verify is already connected to the account of a different user.
  • You are trying to deposit funds from a corporate bank account.
  • The bank account you are trying to verify is not in your name.

We kindly request that you only transfer money from your personal bank account that corresponds to the name of your Bitvavo account.
