Following recent updates to Hungarian legislation, Bitvavo is fully restoring trading services and onboarding for residents of Hungary. This article outlines the timeline for service restoration and explains the updated regulatory background.

What is changing?

Full account functionality is returning for Hungarian clients. Existing users will regain access to buying, selling, and euro deposits, while onboarding for new Hungarian users will reopen shortly after.

Existing Users:
Full functionality—including buying, selling, and EUR deposits—is being re-enabled. Withdrawals and transfers remain fully available.
From September 7, 2026 onwards:
New user onboarding for residents of Hungary will officially reopen.

Note: Affected users will receive an email confirmation once full access is unlocked on their account.

What do I need to do?

No action is required on your part. Once your account is unlocked, you can resume normal trading, deposits, and withdrawals immediately.

1. Manage your digital assets

You can buy, sell, deposit, or transfer your digital assets to an external wallet or self-hosted wallet at any time.

Log in to your Bitvavo account.
Navigate to the asset you wish to trade or withdraw.
Execute your trade or confirm your transfer.

2. Euro deposits and withdrawals

Euro deposits are fully re-enabled. You can deposit funds or withdraw your euro balance to your verified bank account at any time.

3. "Trade-only" assets

Important: With trading re-enabled, you can once again buy or sell trade-only assets for euros within your Bitvavo account.

Why is this happening?

Hungary’s National Assembly passed Act XXXVIII of 2026 (143–46, 1 abstention), repealing the local mandatory crypto-asset conversion validation regime that previously conflicted with MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets).

As an AFM-authorised Crypto Asset Service Provider (CASP) under MiCA, Bitvavo can now offer its full range of services in Hungary in complete regulatory compliance.

Note: Withdrawals and crypto transfers were never restricted during this period and remain fully available.

Do I need to take any action to re-enable my account?

No action is needed on your side. Access will be restored automatically, and you will receive an email confirmation once full functionality is unlocked.

Can new users sign up from Hungary?

Yes, onboarding for new Hungarian residents will officially reopen on September 7, 2026.

What services are available now?

Existing Hungarian clients have full access restored for buying, selling, and EUR deposits. Crypto transfers and EUR withdrawals remain available as usual.
