How can I freeze or unfreeze crypto withdrawals?

This article explains how to use the "Freeze withdrawals" feature on the website to immediately block all crypto withdrawals from your account if you suspect suspicious activity.

If you suspect that your account has been compromised, or if you are being pressured by a third party to send funds, you can immediately freeze your crypto withdrawals. This action places a temporary lock on your account that stops any crypto from leaving Bitvavo.

How to freeze your withdrawals

You can freeze your withdrawals directly from the Bitvavo website.

  1. Log in to your Bitvavo account.
  2. Click your name in the top-right corner and select Settings.
  3. Click Security.
  4. Click the Freeze withdrawals button.
  5. Read the warning carefully and click Confirm to lock your withdrawals.
Warning: This action is permanent and cannot be undone by you. Once you freeze your withdrawals, you will not be able to send crypto to external wallets until our Fraud department unlocks your account.

How to unfreeze your withdrawals

For your safety, you cannot unfreeze your withdrawals yourself. This ensures that even if someone else has access to your account, they cannot remove the lock.

To request an unfreeze, you must contact our Fraud department directly:

  1. Send an email to fraud@bitvavo.com.
  2. Use the following subject line: "Fraud – Request to Unfreeze My Crypto Withdrawals".
  3. Our team will investigate your case and guide you through the steps to safely restore your withdrawal access.
Tip: Please send this email from the email address associated with your Bitvavo account so we can help you faster.
Can I still trade while my withdrawals are frozen?
Yes, freezing your withdrawals only stops crypto from leaving your account. You can still trade and deposit funds while the lock is active.
Why can't I unfreeze my account myself?
The freeze feature is designed for emergencies. By requiring a manual review from our Fraud department, we ensure that your funds remain safe until we are certain that you—and only you—are in control of your account.
