Updated terms October 2026

This article explains the updates to our User Terms taking effect on November 12, 2026. It covers new additions to our Lending Services, changes to the Account Guarantee Program, and options for managing or closing your account.

We recently sent an email to our users regarding updates to our User Terms as we continue to expand Bitvavo products. These updates become effective on November 12, 2026. By continuing to use Bitvavo after this date, you agree to the updated terms. Most of how you use Bitvavo stays the same, but below is a clear summary of what is new and what is changing.

What is new

Liquid staking through Lending Services

When you lend assets to Bitvavo Custody B.V., it can now stake selected assets through liquid staking. This is a new part of Lending Services.

Note: Lending is not regulated and falls outside MiCAR protection. Staking rewards are variable.

EMT Lending

In selected countries, you can lend electronic money tokens (EMTs, such as EUR-backed stablecoins) to Bitvavo Custody B.V. and earn rewards. This is called EMT Lending.

Note: EMT Lending is not regulated and falls outside MiCAR protection.

What is changing

Lending Services scope

The scope of Lending Services is expanded to include liquid staking and EMT Lending, as described above.

Account Guarantee Program eligibility

The Account Guarantee Program stays in place. If someone gains unauthorized access to your account and withdraws your crypto assets, you may be eligible for reimbursement of up to €100,000. However, three eligibility conditions are changing:

  • Authenticator app required: To be eligible, you need two-factor authentication (2FA) set up with an authenticator app. SMS or email codes alone no longer qualify.
  • Approving requests you did not make: Losses are not covered if you approve a login, withdrawal, or other request that you did not initiate yourself, for example a prompt sent by someone else.
  • Physical access to your account: Losses are not covered if someone gains access to your account through physical means, such as theft of your device, robbery, or being forced to hand over access.
