Summary
This article explains how you can disable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your Bitvavo account if you no longer have access to your phone. You’ll find step-by-step instructions for disabling 2FA using the website, as well as how to recover access via re-verification if you’ve also lost access to your phone number.
If you can’t log in because the phone where your 2FA (authenticator app) was installed has been lost or is inaccessible, you can disable 2FA through a secure recovery process. Once disabled, you’ll be able to log in with your email address and password.
You might want to disable 2FA in the following situations:
- Your phone was lost or stolen
- You've switched to a new phone
- The authenticator app was deleted
How to disable 2FA
- Go to https://account.bitvavo.com/reset/2fa.
- Enter your email address and password, then click "2FA Reset".
- You’ll receive a confirmation via email and SMS.
- Open the email and click the confirmation link to proceed.
- Enter the verification code you received by SMS and click "2FA reset". 2FA will now be disabled.
What to do if you no longer have access to your phone number
If you’ve also lost access to the phone number linked to your Bitvavo account, you won’t be able to receive SMS codes. In that case, you’ll need to restore access via re-verification.
Re-verification process to disable 2FA
Follow these steps to confirm your identity and regain access:
-
Start the re-verification process – Go to https://account.bitvavo.com/access and select the option "Lost access to your phone?".
- This process allows you to update your phone number, disable 2FA, and restore access to your account.
-
Enter your account details – Fill in the email address and phone number currently linked to your account.
-
Verify your linked IBAN – Submit the IBAN linked to your account. This helps confirm the request is from the rightful account owner.
-
Complete identity verification – Record a short video of yourself. This will be compared to the ID you used when creating your Bitvavo account.
-
Access restored – Once your identity is confirmed, access to your account will be restored. You’ll receive a confirmation email.
