Why is it necessary to have a valid residential address?
Bitvavo is required by law, including the upcoming MiCA regulation, to collect valid residential addresses of all users and ensure compliance with financial regulations. Without a valid residential address, you cannot fully use Bitvavo’s services. The process is supervised by the Dutch Central Bank and is mandatory for all users.
For new users:
- During account creation, you will be prompted to provide the following:
- Country of residence
- Address (street and house number)
- Unit, floor, building, etc. (optional)
- Post code
- City
- Check the box to confirm that the provided address is your own.
- After you've confirmed your address, you can continue to identity verification.
For existing users:
- You will receive a pop-up on the app or web asking you to either add or confirm your address if it has not been done already.
- Follow the same steps as outlined for new users.
- After successfully confirming your residential address, you can proceed with using Bitvavo’s services.
Changing your address:
If you move or need to update your residential address, you can easily make this change through your profile page:
- Go to the verification page on web or the personal details section on your app.
- Select your current address to edit it.
- Enter your new address and confirm.
What happens if my address isn’t recognized?
If we can’t find the address you entered, you will be prompted to upload a document that proves your current address so that we can add it manually.
- You will see a message asking you to upload a document that shows your address.
- If you skip this step, you will be reminded to do so later.
- Upload a document that shows your residential address to continue.
Which documents can I provide as a proof of address?
We accept the following documents, no older than three months:
- Certificate of residence, issued by the local registration authority
- Utility bills for electricity, water, gas, or landline telephone
- Income tax return or tax assessment notice
- Account statement from a local bank

Bitvavo is legally required to have your valid residential address as part of its compliance with regulations, including those supervised by De Nederlandsche Bank.
