Why is it necessary to verify my identity?

To comply with European laws and regulations, supervised by the Dutch Central Bank, Bitvavo requires identity verification before you can use our services. This guide explains the data needed for verification, how Bitvavo handles your identity documents, and provides a brief overview of the verification process. Typically, this process is automatic and takes just a few minutes.

What data does Bitvavo need for identity verification?

To verify your identity, Bitvavo requires the following information:

  • Full Names
  • Nationality
  • Date of Birth
  • Issue Date
  • Expiry Date
  • Issuing Country
  • Passport Photograph
  • Document Number

You may cover your Social Security Number. Ensure only the SSN is covered and not the entire MRZ code. If data is shielded, manual verification might delay the process.

Bitvavo ensures your personal data is handled securely:

  1. Verification:

    • Your identity document is verified by a trusted service provider.
    • The document is deleted by the provider after verification.
  2. Data Handling:

    • Bitvavo receives encrypted information selected from your document.
    • This information is stored on an offline server for security.
  3. Employee Access:

    • Bitvavo employees with access to your data have undergone background checks and possess a certificate of conduct.

These measures guarantee the confidentiality of your data. For more details, refer to our Privacy Statement or Terms and Conditions.
