How do I verify my wallet address with a screenshot?

Summary

To comply with the Travel Rule, Bitvavo requires you to verify ownership of your external wallet address before making larger deposits or withdrawals. If your wallet does not support signing a message via WalletConnect, you can verify ownership by providing a screenshot of your wallet address. This article explains how to take a valid screenshot and where to find your wallet address in your wallet app.

Why do I need to verify my wallet address?

Regulatory requirements, such as the Travel Rule, require Bitvavo to confirm that you own the wallet address you are withdrawing to or depositing from. This verification helps ensure security and compliance with financial regulations.

How to find your wallet address

Your wallet address can usually be found in your wallet app by:

  1. Selecting the cryptocurrency you want to withdraw.
  2. Looking for an option like "Receive" or "Deposit".

If you are unsure where to find your wallet address, refer to your wallet provider's help section for guidance.

How do I take a valid screenshot or photo?

If your wallet does not support WalletConnect, you can verify your wallet address by uploading a screenshot or photo.

Your image will only be accepted if it meets all of the following requirements:

  • The wallet address must be clearly visible. We accept:
    • The full address, or
    • At least the first 4 and last 4 characters of the address.
  • The image must show the user interface of the wallet app or platform you are using.
  • The image must be a full screenshot or full photo of the screen (not cropped).
  • The image must not be a photo of another phone screen showing the wallet address.

Screenshots or photos showing wallet transactions

If you upload a screenshot or photo that shows wallet transactions, it will only be accepted if it meets the above requirements, the transaction date is no older than 14 days at the time of submitting your verification request, and the transaction is shown in the wallet app itself, not via a block explorer.

If your upload does not meet these conditions, it will be rejected and you’ll be asked to submit a new image.

Warning: Photos of another phone screen showing the wallet address are not accepted.
Exception: Photos of actual hardware wallet devices themselves, such as Ledger, Trezor or Ellipal, are allowed.
